Role overview
The fact-checkers will be responsible to provide real-time and accurate verification of news content, social media claims and public statements. S/he will play a critical role to spot and debunk misinformation, produce explainers and support editorial teams of the newsrooms.
Key responsibilities:
- Support day-to-day operations of the Fact-Check Help Desk.
- Respond to verification requests from news media, journalists and partners in a timely manner.
- Use open-source and digital verification tools (e.g. InVID, reverse image search, metadata analysis) to fact-check claims.
- Document the fact-checking process and prepare clearly written explainers or bulletins.
- Monitor trends in misinformation on social media and news platforms.
- Ensure timely updates during crisis like natural disasters or election periods.
- Support in developing workflows, guidelines or protocols for misinformation tracking and response.
- Support training sessions or learning workshops for journalists.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, social science or data related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in fact-checking, reporting or digital content verification.
- Familiarity with tools like Google Fact Check Explorer, InVID, Wayback Machine, etc.
- Basic understanding of social media monitoring and online trends.
- Strong writing skills in Bangla and English.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and pressure.
